The Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland County and the Bobbi & Barry Lewis JCC announced that an emergency grant of $100,000 has been provided by the Federation to the JCC, leading the community in supporting the repair and rehabilitation of the building in the immediate aftermath of the major flooding and consequent heavy damage experienced on August 7th.
“The Lewis JCC plays a central role in Jewish life in Rockland County,” said Dustin Hausner, President of the Federation. “Our Federation has been proud to count it among our key partners and beneficiary agencies for many years, and when we heard about what had happened we immediately reached out to help meet the needs and challenges resulting from the flooding.”
“The Lewis JCC has been an incredible partner, working with us on major events like Israel@75, helping us raise funds during our Israel Emergency Appeal, assisting us in bringing over 700 people to Washington for the 2023 rally, and marching with us every year at the Israel on 5th parade,” shared Ari Rosenblum, CEO at the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland. “Even with all the challenges we face, our community needs to step up in time of need, and the Federation has to set an example.”
“We are very grateful to the Jewish Federation of Rockland for this much needed and much valued grant,” said David Kirschtel, Lewis JCC’s CEO. “Federation has been a partner and funder for many years, and this demonstrates their essential role here in Rockland’s Jewish Community, meeting community needs year after year and stepping up in times of crisis.”
This grant was made possible through the generosity of Lily Steuer z’l and several other exemplars of the concept that “All of am Yisrael are responsible for one another” in the creation of The Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland County’s endowment.
