Last night, the Forshay Kehilla hosted a deeply moving event at Ateres Charna Hall to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the horrific Monsey stabbing attack that occurred during Chanukah in 2019. The tragedy left a lasting impact on the community and drew hundreds of attendees to reflect, remember, and unite in strength.
The attack, perpetrated by Grafton Thomas, shocked the Jewish world when he stormed a Chanukah celebration at the Forshay Rebbe’s home armed with a machete, injuring several individuals. Among the victims was R’ Yosef Neumann, hy”d, who succumbed to his injuries months later.
The event featured heartfelt speeches and moments of reflection, honoring the memory of R’ Yosef Neumann and recognizing the heroism of Josef Gluck. Gluck’s brave actions in confronting the attacker undoubtedly saved countless lives that night.
In a statement issued on the anniversary, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office expressed solidarity with the community, saying, “We must never forget the heroic actions of Josef Gluck, who saved many from injury or death, and the memory of Josef Neumann, who lost his life due to the injuries he suffered on that tragic night.”
Hundreds of participants filled Ateres Charna Hall, demonstrating the enduring unity and resilience of the Monsey community. The event served as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced and overcome, as well as a commitment to preserving the legacy of those affected by the attack.
