A Bronx woman has been convicted for a series of violent thefts targeting an elderly resident at a senior assisted living complex in Pearl River.
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced Friday that Delores Anderson, 60, was found guilty following a one-week jury trial before Judge Kevin Russo in Rockland County Court. Anderson was convicted of five counts of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, all class “C” felonies. Sentencing is set for August 27, 2025.
Anderson served as a live-in home health aide for a 78-year-old male resident from December 2022 through August 2023. On May 5, 2023, while in the victim’s home, she held a kitchen knife and forced him to write two personal checks to herself totaling $4,082.
The threats escalated on July 25, 2023, when Anderson again confronted the victim with the same kitchen knife, this time pressing it against his stomach and demanding three additional checks. The victim, fearing for his safety, complied, writing two checks for $3,603 and one for $3,602. Anderson deposited and withdrew a total of $18,972 using the five stolen checks.
The case was investigated by the Town of Orangetown Police Department. Senior Assistant District Attorneys Allyson White and Brittany Richardson led the prosecution.
District Attorney Walsh emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating the defendant abused a position of trust and used violence to exploit a vulnerable senior. He reaffirmed the commitment of his office to protect Rockland County’s elderly residents from abuse and financial exploitation.
