Ramapo Police arrested a 26-year-old Hillcrest man late Saturday night after a cab driver reported being threatened with a handgun while picking up a fare on Rockland Lane.
Police say the dispute escalated when the suspect lifted his shirt to show a handgun, then removed the weapon and racked the slide, chambering a round, as the fare stood nearby with a young child. Detectives quickly identified him through a photo array and, along with patrol officers, responded to his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was arraigned Sunday morning, and officers recovered an unserialized “ghost gun” along with an ammunition feeding device.
He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Menacing. Police described the situation as extremely dangerous and credited the cab driver’s swift report and the coordinated response of officers and detectives for preventing a potential tragedy.
Ramapo Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the community and holding violent offenders accountable.
