On Friday December 1, at 5:30 PM, Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 swiftly responded to a distress call at 37 Old Pomona Road, where a two-story single-family home was ablaze in its boiler room. The first responders were met with smoke and flames at the front door, leading to the basement. Their quick action extinguished the basement fire, preventing it from spreading further within the house.
In a timely reminder to residents, the Hillcrest Fire Company emphasized the importance of calling 911 promptly during a fire emergency and closing doors when leaving a home to slow the spread of fires.
The Thiells and Monsey Fire Departments, along with Spring Hill Ambulance and Ramapo Police, provided valuable assistance at the scene. Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1, an entirely volunteer department, responded to over 1,000 calls annually, serving multiple towns in the Moleston Fire District with three strategically located firehouses.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Sheriffs BCI Office and Ramapo Detectives, while Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 continues its dedicated service to the community.
