A 40-year-old hiker was safely rescued Thursday afternoon after suffering an ankle injury while hiking in a wooded area near Bear Mountain, leaving him unable to walk back to safety.
Chaverim Of Rockland’s Search & Rescue Team responded to the scene with specialized rescue equipment and quickly reached the injured hiker. Volunteers assessed the injury, immobilized the angulated ankle, and carefully secured the patient in a specialized wilderness rescue stretcher before carrying him out of the woods.
The rescue was carried out in coordination with Hatzoloh EMS of Rockland County and the New York State Park Police. Once out of the wooded area, the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance and transported to Westchester Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
The incident highlights the specialized training and rapid response capabilities of Chaverim Of Rockland’s Search & Rescue Team, whose volunteers are prepared to respond to emergencies in remote and difficult-to-access areas throughout the region.
