A coordinated rescue effort involving multiple emergency agencies, including Spring Hill EMS, successfully brought a hiker to safety after she fell approximately 20 feet on the Torn Valley Hiking Trail on Friday evening.
At around 6:00 PM, Spring Hill Ambulance, the Hillburn Fire Department, New York State Park Police, and New York State Rangers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of an injured hiker deep within the trail.
Spring Hill Special Operations Unit responded with its rescue Gator and a paramedic. Upon arrival, emergency crews navigated the rugged terrain to reach the 40-year-old female hiker, who had sustained a compound fracture and was experiencing severe pain.
Paramedics on-site administered emergency medical care, including initiating an IV line and administering fentanyl to manage her pain. Once stabilized, the patient was carefully loaded onto the rescue Gator and transported out of the wooded area. She was then taken to Hackensack Hospital in stable condition for further treatment.
The complex three-hour rescue operation was a testament to the teamwork and dedication of all agencies involved. Spring Hill EMS extended its gratitude to the responding personnel for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring a successful rescue.
Spring Hill EMS also recognized several members for their role in the operation, including Captain V. Wolf, ambulance crew members E. Vergas and R. Kolessar, and special operations members J. Fried, A. Fried, and A. Hoffman. Paramedic A. Silberberg was also acknowledged for providing critical care to the injured hiker.
Emergency responders credited the successful outcome to seamless collaboration and swift action.
