Late Friday night, a harrowing high-speed chase on Route 6 in Woodbury culminated in a fatal collision, claiming two lives and prompting an extensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects. The incident unfolded around 10 p.m., initiated by New York State Police after detecting a 2019 Infiniti speeding over 100 miles per hour on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near exit 17.
Efforts to intercept the speeding vehicle were thwarted as the driver exited the Palisades at exit 18 and hurtled west on Route 6. The Infiniti subsequently rear-ended a Toyota Sienna minivan, propelling it into the eastbound lane, where it struck a 2017 Mercedes-Benz, resulting in two fatalities.
Following the incident, the driver and a passenger from the Infiniti abandoned the car and escaped on foot, leaving a firearm inside the vehicle. An extensive search operation was carried out, involving the Rockland County Sheriff’s drone and K-9 units, as well as an NYPD Aviation helicopter. Despite these efforts, the suspects were not apprehended. Saturday afternoon the New York State Police announced in a press release that the alleged suspects had been found but have not been arrested.
The New York State Police are diligently investigating the catastrophic event and urge witnesses or anyone with pertinent information to contact the State Police barracks in Middletown at 845-344-5300.
