High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash: SUV Involved in NJ Burglary Crashes in Orangetown

A serious car crash occurred in Orangetown following an alleged home burglary and subsequent police pursuit. The incident began in Closter, Bergen County, on Saturday, August 10, at around 8:40 p.m. and ended minutes later with a violent crash in Orangetown.

The sequence of events started when Closter Police responded to a report of a home burglary on Kennedy Circle. As officers arrived, a BMW X5 with Pennsylvania plates was seen leaving the scene. The vehicle nearly collided with a police cruiser as it fled the area at high speed, prompting a pursuit.

The chase continued across state lines into Rockland County, where it was eventually called off. Shortly after, the BMW crashed at the intersection of Route 340 and Oak Tree Road in Orangetown. One occupant of the vehicle was seriously injured and had to be extricated by the Sparkill Fire Department. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

Following the crash, two individuals were observed fleeing the scene on foot. The driver, identified as Christian Ochoa Moreno of Queens, was apprehended at the crash site by Closter police officers and later handed over to Orangetown Police. Moreno is currently in custody at Rockland County Jail, awaiting an extradition hearing to be returned to Bergen County. The two other suspects remain at large.
