In the early hours of December 1, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office 911/Communications team demonstrated exceptional teamwork and training in responding to a life-threatening emergency in Spring Valley. Geoffrey Dick, a highly-trained Radio Operator I and Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), played a pivotal role in saving the life of a 73-year-old male who had suffered sudden cardiac arrest.
The incident unfolded at approximately 1:30 AM when the victim, who had been experiencing heart palpitations and chest pain throughout the day, became unconscious. Geoffrey quickly assessed the situation over the phone and provided the victim’s family with lifesaving instructions to open the airway and begin chest compressions for CPR.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey’s colleagues coordinated a seamless multi-agency response, dispatching the Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps, Rockland Paramedic Services, and the Spring Valley Police Department to the scene. Once on site, responders administered advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) to stabilize the victim’s pulse and blood pressure before transporting him to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY.
The victim remains under cardiac care at the hospital, with responders and the victim’s family remaining hopeful for a full recovery.
Geoffrey and his fellow Radio Operators are part of a highly skilled team of emergency medical dispatchers who work tirelessly to assist callers during critical medical emergencies.
