Haverstraw is mourning the loss of longtime Village Trustee and Fire Commissioner Rafael Augusto “Rafaelito” Bueno Sr., who passed away on November 25 at the age of 66.
Bueno, a highly respected and familiar figure in the community, served on the Haverstraw Village Board for more than 20 years. First appointed in 2003, he dedicated himself to public service and was later named Fire Commissioner, a role in which he worked closely with local emergency services to support the safety and well-being of residents.
The Relief Hose Company No. 3 Volunteer Fire Company of the Haverstraw Fire Department announced his passing with deep regret, noting his 24 years of service as both a member and captain of the Department’s Fire Police. His colleagues described him as a committed leader, a steady presence, and a man whose devotion to the village never wavered.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Bueno immigrated to the United States, where he built a life rooted in family, community, and hard work. He was a successful barber and a beloved member of the Haverstraw community, widely known for his warm personality and dedication to helping others.
Rafaelito’s passing leaves a profound void among all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless residents whose lives he touched through decades of service.

May he rest in peace. 🙏 🙏
