An 18-year-old Spring Valley man was arrested late Saturday night after Haverstraw Police Department stopped a vehicle reported to be involved in suspicious activity in the Village of Haverstraw.
Police say that at approximately 10:44 p.m., officers received a call about a vehicle occupied by multiple individuals who were allegedly driving around the area and asking people whether they were affiliated with gangs.
After obtaining a description, officers located a vehicle matching that description on Main Street in the Village of Haverstraw and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was occupied by three individuals.
During the subsequent investigation, police determined that one of the occupants—an 18-year-old male from Spring Valley—was in possession of a loaded firearm. He was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (loaded firearm), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (large-capacity ammunition feeding device), and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
The suspect was held overnight and arraigned Sunday morning in Village of Haverstraw Justice Court, where bail was set at $100,000 cash or $250,000 bond.
