The Town of Haverstraw Police Department has arrested a 32-year-old Spring Valley man following an investigation into a fraudulent credit card transaction involving the purchase of a commercial vacuum cleaner valued at $999.99.
On September 8, 2025, police received a report from an Ohio-based company that an individual had placed a phone order using a fraudulent credit card. The product was shipped to a Pomona business address, where it was confirmed delivered and signed for. Shortly thereafter, the company was informed that the credit card charge had been disputed, resulting in a financial loss.
Investigators later discovered the stolen vacuum cleaner listed for sale online. With assistance from the Rockland County Intelligence Center, Haverstraw Police conducted an undercover operation at the Pomona location, where they completed a controlled purchase of the vacuum cleaner. The model and serial number matched the equipment obtained through the fraudulent order.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the individual’s name has not been released. The defendant was processed and released on an appearance ticket pending a future court date.
The Town of Haverstraw Police Department urges residents and businesses to remain cautious when conducting online or phone-based transactions and to report any suspicious or fraudulent activity to local law enforcement.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
