A 19-year-old Haverstraw resident with multiple active warrants was taken into custody Tuesday evening after a dramatic foot chase through the Village of Haverstraw, during which police recovered a loaded firearm.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on September 2, 2025, Haverstraw Police officers spotted Miciaih Cozart, 19, in the downtown business district. Cozart, who was known to have outstanding warrants, attempted to flee when officers tried to stop him on the sidewalk.
During the pursuit, police say Cozart tried to discard a loaded handgun in a park on Main Street. Officers quickly apprehended him and recovered the weapon. He was transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for processing.
Cozart was arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond, or partially secured bond.
In addition to the outstanding warrants, Cozart now faces the following charges:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (Loaded Firearm) – Class C Felony
- Criminal Possession of a Firearm – Class E Felony
- Criminal Possession of Stolen Property: Firearm – Class E Felony
- Resisting Arrest – Class A Misdemeanor
Authorities remind the public that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
