Haverstraw Man Charged With Aggravated DWI After Fiery Crash On Nys Thruway In Greenburgh

A 35-year-old Haverstraw man is facing multiple charges after a late-night crash led to a vehicle fire on the New York State Thruway, authorities said.

According to the New York State Police, the incident occurred on April 17, 2026, at approximately 10:56 p.m., when troopers assigned to SP Tarrytown responded to reports of a vehicle fire near mile marker 14 southbound in the town of Greenburgh.

Upon arrival, troopers observed a 2023 Nissan Frontier fully engulfed in flames. A male, later identified as Tulsiram Singh of Haverstraw, was seen walking northbound along the southbound shoulder away from the burning vehicle.

During the investigation, troopers observed signs of alcohol impairment and conducted standardized field sobriety tests, along with a portable breath test, both of which indicated impairment. Further investigation revealed that Singh had struck a concrete barrier on the Thruway before the vehicle caught fire. Authorities also determined that prior to entering the highway, Singh allegedly struck multiple parked vehicles in the parking lot of the Palisades Center.

Singh was taken into custody and transported to SP Tarrytown for processing, where a chemical breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.21%, nearly three times the legal limit.

He has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (BAC of 0.18% or higher). Singh, who was not injured in the incident, was later released to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in Greenburgh Town Court on May 4, 2026.

State Police are reminding drivers to plan ahead and avoid impaired driving, encouraging the use of designated drivers or ride services to ensure safe travel.
