Haverstraw Fire Dept. Mourns the Passing of 49-Year Member Joseph “JB” Bernardo

The officers and members of Haverstraw Fire Department Relief Hose Co. No. 3 announced with deep regret the passing of longtime member Joseph “JB” Bernardo, a devoted firefighter who served the company for 49 years.

Bernardo dedicated decades of service to the firehouse, rising through the ranks and serving as Captain from 1982 to 1984. He later became the longest-serving President in company history, holding the position for an extraordinary 28 years beginning in 1997. Known for his steady leadership, compassion, and wisdom, JB was a constant presence in the firehouse and was widely respected as a trusted listener and guiding voice to generations of members.

Firematic services will be held on Monday, December 29, at 7:00 p.m. at T.J. McGowans Funeral Home, located at 71 North Central Highway in Garnerville.
