Former State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick Visits Vien Cheder in Monsey, Addresses Tax Concerns and School Funding Challenges

Former State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick paid a visit with the Vien Cheder in Monsey. Elijah Reichlin-Melnick met with the students and the staff, and sat down to speak with the administrator Rabbi Yochi Katz for an in depth conversation.

They discussed several issues, including the ongoing tax concerns within the East Ramapo School District. Elijah Reichlin-Melnick explained some of the difficulties involved in passing a budget and shared his plans to implement short-term solutions while working on ensuring long-term budgets. He pointed out that the current state aid formula needs to be addressed since the district is being shortchanged by Albany, and said that he would push for studies on how different formulas might better benefit the district. Elijah Reichlin-Melnick also noted the need for more childcare across Rockland County.
