Former Airmont Deputy Mayor Sentenced to One Year for Illegal Weapon Possession

Brian Downey, 50, a former deputy mayor of Airmont, has been sentenced to one year in jail for possessing an illegal weapon. The sentencing took place in Rockland County Court following Downey’s 2021 arrest after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence.

During the search, multiple weapons and ammunition were discovered, including an unregistered firearm, which led to federal charges. Downey pled guilty to those charges and was sentenced to eight months in federal prison.

Upon completion of his federal sentence, Downey will be transferred to the Rockland County Jail to serve the remainder of his one-year sentence.
