Construction continues to move forward on Stony Point’s new Patriot Park, with the installation of the park’s flagpole marking a major milestone in the project. Located at the north end of the Commuter Lot on Route 9W, the park is being developed as a place for reflection, remembrance, and community pride as the nation prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
Town officials said visitors may notice that the American flag is not flying at all times. Because the park remains under construction and the permanent flagpole lighting has not yet been installed, the flag will not be left displayed overnight in order to comply with the U.S. Flag Code. Once the project is completed and the lighting is operational, the flag will be flown in accordance with federal guidelines.
Residents still have the opportunity to become part of the project by sponsoring personalized commemorative bricks, which will be incorporated into the park. The Town says Patriot Park is intended to serve as a lasting tribute to American history and the community, creating a space where residents and visitors can gather to honor the nation’s past and celebrate its future for generations to come.
