Finkelstein Library Election Results: Four New Trustees Elected as Voters Reject Proposed Budget

The results are in from Tuesday’s Finkelstein Memorial Library election, where four candidates were successfully elected to the Board of Trustees, but the proposed 2025–2026 budget was voted down by the public.

The newly elected trustees are:

  1. Esther Waldman

  2. Yossi Rubinstein

  3. Goldie Golding

  4. Yehudis Gottesfeld

These individuals will now play a key role in shaping the direction and policies of the library over the coming term. Voter turnout reflected strong community engagement, particularly in light of recent discussions regarding library services, programming, and fiscal priorities.

Despite the successful trustee elections, the library’s proposed budget did not pass, signaling concerns from voters regarding spending or taxation. The rejection may impact library operations or planned initiatives until an updated budget is presented.

Voting took place at the Finkelstein Memorial Library, with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

UPDATE – The official results of the Finkelstein Memorial Library election are in: Esther Waldman (479 votes), Goldie Golding (460), Yossi Rubinstein (417), and Yehudis Gottesfeld (408) have been elected as trustees, defeating Sharon McIntyre (205) and Kusar Asghar (113). The proposed 2025–2026 library budget was narrowly rejected by voters, with 336 voting “No” and 296 voting “Yes.”

Per a resolution adopted by the library board in December 2024, the election was structured with staggered terms to prevent all seats from being up for election at once. The top two vote-getters—Waldman and Golding—will serve five-year terms, while Rubinstein and Gottesfeld will serve four-year terms. As a result, one seat will be up for election in 2026, one in 2027, one in 2028, two in 2029, and two again in 2030, restarting the cycle of staggered elections.
