Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, along with Pat Carroll, who is running for the NY 96th Assembly District, which includes Haverstraw, met on Sunday with prominent rabbis from the Haverstraw and Garnerville communities. The gathering took place at the home of Rabbi Reidel in Haverstraw and included Rabbi Kagan, Rabbi Slansky, and several community leaders.
Reichlin-Melnick was warmly received, with participants expressing their appreciation for his willingness to engage with the local Jewish leadership and address key community issues. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of having a pragmatic Democratic representative for the district to counterbalance extreme political voices. Reichlin-Melnick assured the attendees that he is committed to finding solutions to pressing local concerns, particularly the challenges facing the East Ramapo School budget and the protection of parents’ rights to educate their children in private schools aligned with their beliefs.
The meeting concluded with the rabbinical leaders extending their best wishes to both Reichlin-Melnick and Carroll in their respective campaigns and expressing their desire to maintain close communication after the election.
