An earthquake struck along the Ramapo Fault at approximately 10:18 PM Saturday night, sending tremors through parts of Rockland County and beyond.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered a magnitude of 3.0 and was felt across the New York City area, New Jersey, including in Stony Point and surrounding communities. Residents in various parts of Rockland reported feeling the ground shake, with many describing a brief but noticeable jolt.
The Clarkstown Police Department confirmed receiving numerous calls from concerned residents shortly after the tremor. “We’ve received a number of calls from people who felt the shaking, but at this time, there have been no reports of damage,” a department spokesperson stated.
Ramapo Police also issued a brief statement, saying, “We haven’t received any concerning calls in regard to the reported earthquake.”
While the quake was relatively minor in magnitude, its impact was widely felt due to its location along the Ramapo Fault, a known seismic zone running through parts of New York and New Jersey.
No injuries have been reported.
