DWI Arrests Surge in Ramapo: Police Report 50% Increase in 2024

Following several tragedies involving impaired driving in the community, the Town of Ramapo Police Department has intensified efforts to combat driving while intoxicated (DWI). In 2024, officers made 291 DWI-related arrests, marking a significant 50% increase from the 194 arrests reported last year.

Of these arrests, 126 were conducted by the department’s midnight shift officers, highlighting their critical role in tackling intoxicated driving during late-night hours.

The Ramapo Police Department emphasized its ongoing commitment to removing impaired drivers from local roads, working in collaboration with organizations like STOP DWI New York, Rockland County STOP DWI, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee of New York.

“Ensuring the safety of everyone in our community remains our top priority,” the department stated, reaffirming its resolve to address the dangers posed by drugged and drunk drivers.

This concerted effort is part of a broader initiative to safeguard lives and prevent further tragedies in the region.
