Drowning Incident at Old Sebago Beach Claims Life of Swimmer

On Sunday evening, emergency responders from the Thiells Fire Department and Stony Point’s Dive Team were called to Old Sebago Beach following reports of a drowning. The incident occurred at approximately 6:35 PM when a caller reported seeing a man in his 30s struggling in the water and calling for help.

Upon arrival, authorities quickly established a command post and coordinated with park police units to determine the victim’s last known location. However, severe weather conditions initially hampered rescue efforts, delaying the deployment of the dive team.

Once conditions improved, the dive team was able to begin their search. Within four minutes of the diver entering the water, the victim was located approximately 45 feet from shore.

Sadly, the individual was found deceased. Chevra Kadisha services were not needed in this tragic incident.

The scene was subsequently handed over to the park police for further investigation.
