DEVELOPING IN HAVERSTRAW: Thiells Fire Department Rescue Truck Crashes Into Building While Responding to Boating Emergency

A Thiells Fire Department Underwater Search and Rescue truck responding to a reported boating emergency was involved in a serious crash at approximately 12:08 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of North Route 9W and East Railroad Avenue in Haverstraw.

The rescue truck struck a building, prompting a large emergency response. Haverstraw Police, Haverstraw EMS, the Thiells Fire Department, the West Haverstraw Fire Department, and the Rockland County Technical Rescue Team responded to the scene to assist with patient care, secure the area, and investigate the incident.

Multiple injured patients were transported to area hospitals. The severity of their injuries has not yet been released.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., the damaged Thiells Fire Department Underwater Search and Rescue truck was towed from the scene as crews continued their investigation and worked to clear the area.
