Former Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick has voiced his strong opposition to the proposed cuts in busing services within the East Ramapo School District, emphasizing the critical link between transportation and education access.
He stated, “Kids can’t learn if they can’t get to school. I am deeply concerned about, and strongly opposed to any proposal that would slash busing services for students living in the East Ramapo School District.” Reichlin-Melnick highlighted the potential dangers and increased risks for children forced to find alternative routes to school, referencing the tragic incidents where two children were struck and killed in Ramapo this year.
He advocates for the approval of budgets that ensure transportation for all students and calls on New York State to address funding disparities to support districts like East Ramapo adequately.
