Construction is now underway on the long-anticipated Lake Suzanne revitalization project in Monsey, a major milestone in a years-long effort led by current New York State Assemblyman Aron Wieder during his tenure as a Rockland County Legislator.
The $2 million initiative, funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act via Rockland County’s Urban Green Space Grant Program, will transform the lakefront into a serene, family-friendly park. Plans include a scenic boardwalk over the water, seating areas, and additional benches throughout the path for residents to enjoy.
Following a competitive bidding process, the county awarded approximately $1.8 million to ADP Group Inc. of New Jersey for construction of the walking path.
Rockland County Legislator Phil Soskin, who partnered with Wieder on the project while Wieder served in the Legislature, emphasized the value of green spaces, especially following the pandemic. “Access to green spaces became crucial during the pandemic, and even before that, we recognized the need for improvements at Lake Suzanne,” Soskin noted. “This has been a priority for both of us, and it’s rewarding to see it finally coming to fruition.”
In 2022, the lake area was enhanced with a newly modernized dam built to meet updated safety standards. The new boardwalk will further elevate the location, creating a peaceful oasis for residents and visitors alike.
Assemblyman Wieder and Legislator Soskin expressed appreciation to the Legislature, the County Executive’s office, and all those who helped bring the project to life. The boardwalk is expected to become a cherished addition to the community for years to come.
