Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) announced the introduction of the Revitalizing America’s Housing Act, a sweeping bipartisan legislative package aimed at addressing the nation’s housing challenges by reducing costs, expanding supply, improving safety, and strengthening federal oversight.

“In the last Congress, I introduced this legislation to tackle the growing housing crisis, and several components—like enhancing the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and reauthorizing Opportunity Zones—were adopted into the One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” said Congressman Lawler. “These steps will unlock billions in investment to expand housing nationwide.”
Lawler emphasized that this year’s version includes practical reforms to generate immediate impact, such as expanding Opportunity Zone benefits to cover ordinary income and increasing capital gains exclusions for home sales. The bill also promotes zoning reform to ease outdated land-use restrictions.
“With housing costs soaring and inventory shrinking across the Hudson Valley and the nation, this legislation offers real solutions to help families find and afford safe, stable homes,” Lawler concluded.
