Yesterday, Congressman Mike Lawler, joined by Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco and local officials, announced $32.9 million in federal funding for 15 new projects across New York’s 17th Congressional District. This brings the total funding secured during his first term to over $70 million, aimed at improving infrastructure and public safety throughout the Hudson Valley.
“When I was elected, I promised to work across all levels of government to address the needs of our residents,” said Congressman Lawler. “Today’s funding announcements are a direct result of that bipartisan collaboration, ensuring these vital projects are supported.”
Lawler emphasized his focus on delivering results for the community, noting that these investments will enhance the region’s infrastructure, boost public safety, and improve quality of life for residents across Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester counties.
Here’s a breakdown of the 15 projects funded through this latest allocation:
- Rockland County Public Safety and Crime Prevention Initiative
- Recipient: Rockland County Sheriff’s Office
- Amount: $4,500,000
- Funding will be used for police vehicles, equipment for a new public safety training facility, and structural analysis to enhance crime prevention and law enforcement capabilities.
- Law Enforcement Reality-Based Training Facility
- Recipient: Rockland County Sheriff’s Office
- Amount: $2,600,000
- The project will fund the construction of a new training facility, boosting law enforcement operations and public safety.
- Westchester Pleasantville Water District Storage Tank Rehabilitation
- Amount: $2,250,000
- This funding will replace aging water storage tanks, ensuring the safety and reliability of water supply for 7,513 residents in Pleasantville and an additional 2,000 in the Town of Mount Pleasant.
- Nanuet Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Project
- Recipient: Town of Clarkstown
- Amount: $5,000,000
- Funds will be used to improve water, sewer, and pedestrian infrastructure to support the TOD plan, promoting economic development and workforce housing.
- Safer Ramapo Project
- Recipient: Town of Ramapo
- Amount: $5,000,000
- This project focuses on pedestrian safety improvements, including new traffic signals, walking paths, and sidewalks, addressing the needs of a large Orthodox Jewish community.
- Carmel Water District II Water Plant Upgrade and Rehabilitation
- Recipient: Town of Carmel
- Amount: $1,250,000
- Funding will be used to upgrade a 60-year-old water facility, benefiting 10,000 individuals daily and ensuring compliance with state and federal standards.
- Hallocks Mill Sewer District Extension Project
- Recipient: Town of Yorktown
- Amount: $1,250,000
- This project will extend sewer services to neighborhoods currently using septic systems, improving water quality and protecting local water sources like Sparkle Lake and the Croton Reservoir.
- Croton Falls Sewer Project
- Recipient: Town of North Salem
- Amount: $1,250,000
- The project will install a sewer system to replace aging septic tanks, addressing environmental concerns and supporting business development in the area.
- Town of Orangetown Sidewalk Improvement Project
- Recipient: Town of Orangetown
- Amount: $1,500,000
- Funds will be used for streetscaping, including new sidewalks and curbs, to improve pedestrian safety along a high-risk area in Pearl River.
- Village of New Square Road Infrastructure Improvements

- This project will widen roads, repave streets, and improve traffic flow and safety for pedestrians and motorists in New Square, a fast-growing community.
- Memorial Drive Reconstruction Project
- Recipient: Village of Suffern

- Funds will be used to reconstruct Memorial Drive, a critical thoroughfare for emergency vehicles and community access.
- Downtown Water Main Lining Project
- Recipient: Village of Sleepy Hollow
- Amount: $983,200
- The project will replace deteriorating water mains in the downtown area, ensuring clean and reliable water for residents, particularly low-income and senior housing communities.
- Samsondale Avenue Curbs & Sidewalk Replacement Project
- Recipient: Village of West Haverstraw
- Amount: $800,000
- The project will upgrade sidewalks and curbs on Samsondale Avenue, improving pedestrian safety and ADA compliance.
- Westchester County Public Safety Enhancements
- Recipient: City of Peekskill
- Amount: $520,000
- Funding will expand and modernize the Peekskill police station, allowing for the hiring of 10 additional officers to enhance public safety.
- North State Road Water Main Replacement Initiative
- Recipient: Town of Ossining
- Amount: $1,000,000
- The project will replace aging water mains prone to breaks, improving water distribution and reducing public health risks for over 37,000 residents.
