Congressman Mike Lawler Hosts Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy at Westchester County Airport

Congressman Mike Lawler welcomed U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to Westchester County Airport on Monday for a tour of the airport’s air traffic control tower and several ongoing FAA-funded infrastructure projects.

Joined by Westchester Deputy County Executive Joan McDonald and airport officials, the visit focused on runway improvements, terminal modernization efforts, and the airport’s long-term infrastructure needs. Officials also reviewed planned upgrades to the airport’s air traffic control systems aimed at improving safety, reliability, and efficiency.

According to Lawler’s office, nearly $18 million has been allocated for air traffic control upgrades at the airport following federal advocacy efforts. The funding will support the replacement of aging equipment with modern technology designed to enhance operations and strengthen the nation’s aviation network.

“Airports like Westchester County Airport are vital transportation hubs that connect families, businesses, and visitors while supporting commerce, tourism, and emergency services,” Lawler said. “These investments strengthen our aviation infrastructure, support economic growth, create jobs, and improve the travel experience for hundreds of thousands of passengers each year.”

Secretary Duffy emphasized the Administration’s commitment to upgrading transportation hubs across the country, noting that Westchester County Airport handles more than 170,000 flights annually and serves as a key part of the Northeast transportation network.

The visit highlighted ongoing federal investment in modernizing aviation infrastructure and ensuring the region’s transportation system remains safe, efficient, and capable of supporting future growth.
