Congressman Mike Lawler hosted Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Administrator Tom Engels in Rockland County on Tuesday for a day of meetings focused on strengthening health care access and supporting providers across New York’s 17th Congressional District.
The visit began at Refuah Health Center in Spring Valley, where Lawler and Engels met with Refuah’s leadership team, physicians, and staff. They toured the facility, learned about the organization’s comprehensive health services, and received an overview of its mobile health units and trauma-informed care programs, which help deliver medical services to underserved communities throughout the region.
Following the tour, Lawler hosted a health care roundtable at his district office, led by Administrator Engels. The discussion brought together representatives from federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), hospitals, and other health care providers from across NY-17 to discuss the challenges facing the health care system and opportunities to improve access to quality, affordable care.
The roundtable focused on strengthening community health services, supporting frontline providers, and identifying ways the federal government can better partner with local health care organizations to meet the growing needs of residents throughout the district.
