This week, Congressman Mike Lawler rose to honor Jim Monaghan for a lifetime of dedicated public service to the residents of Stony Point and Rockland County. Lawler highlighted Monaghan’s distinguished 29-year career with the New York City Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant, as well as his nearly decade-long tenure as Town Supervisor of Stony Point, a role in which he focused on affordability for families and seniors while prioritizing public safety.
Before becoming Town Supervisor, Monaghan also served two years on the Stony Point Town Board. A lifelong Rockland County resident, he and his wife Jackie have lived in Stony Point for more than 30 years, raising their two children and now enjoying time with their grandchildren. Deeply rooted in the community, the Monaghans are active parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church and have long volunteered with local sports programs and nonprofit organizations throughout the county.
As Monaghan retires following decades of service to Stony Point, Rockland County, and New York, Lawler expressed pride in recognizing his many contributions and wished him a fulfilling next chapter after an extraordinary career in public service.
