Congressman Mike Lawler released a statement on Tuesday in response to the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, following remarks by President Biden in the Rose Garden.
“I am pleased to see Israel and Hezbollah reach a ceasefire in Lebanon,” stated Congressman Lawler. “Israel’s decisive actions have significantly weakened Hezbollah’s capacity for aggression, delivering a substantial blow to a terrorist organization and limiting its ability to operate moving forward.”
Lawler called for further action in the region, urging Hamas to follow Israel’s terms. “It’s time for Hamas to surrender, release the hostages, and disarm,” he continued. “After more than 400 days since October 7th, such steps are long overdue.”
He also recognized President Biden’s role in facilitating the agreement while attributing additional diplomatic pressure to the possibility of a second Trump Administration. “The prospect of President Trump’s return has undoubtedly encouraged parties to negotiate,” Lawler concluded. “Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah are rightfully apprehensive. I look forward to President Trump collaborating with Israel to neutralize Iranian terrorist proxies and establish lasting peace in the Middle East.”
