Congressman Mike Lawler is celebrating the release of Alan Junior Pierre, a Haitian refugee and student at Spring Valley High School, who had been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Lawler’s office was alerted to Pierre’s detention last week after the student’s family, unable to get help through Senator Schumer’s office, reached out for assistance. Upon receiving the request, Lawler and his team quickly coordinated with the Department of Homeland Security and engaged with the Pierre family and their legal counsel to secure authorization for official intervention.
Congressman Lawler personally got involved, contacting key federal officials to advocate for Pierre’s release.
On Tuesday morning, following news of Pierre’s release, Congressman Lawler issued a statement:
“I’m grateful to the Department of Homeland Security and Secretary Noem for working with me to release Alan Junior Pierre, pending his parole claim being adjudicated. My office and I will continue to support Alan and his family throughout the immigration process, just as we have with many other families across the Haitian community and throughout my district.”
Alan Junior Pierre attends Spring Valley High School. Lawler concluded his remarks by reaffirming his commitment to the Haitian community, stating, “The situation in Haiti remains dire, and I will continue to advocate for Haitian immigrants to be granted asylum and parole within the confines of the law.”
