Congressman Mike Lawler announced a major legislative victory for the Hudson Valley last week as the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act, which includes key provisions from his Hudson River Protection Act.
The legislation includes a suspension of new anchorage sites along the Hudson River—an issue that has drawn significant concern from environmental advocates and local communities. Lawler emphasized that while the bill marks important progress, the broader fight continues.
“This is a big win for the Hudson Valley,” said Lawler. “The inclusion of parts of my Hudson River Protection Act—specifically the moratorium on new anchorages—is a critical step forward in preserving the beauty and safety of our river.”
Lawler pledged to continue pushing for full inclusion of his Hudson River Protection Act as the legislative process moves forward.
“The fight isn’t over,” he said. “I will keep working to ensure the complete Hudson River Protection Act makes it into the final bill.”
