Congressman Lawler Announces Renaming of Haverstraw Post Office in Honor of Late Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato

In a move to honor the legacy of the late Rockland County Clerk, Paul Piperato, Congressman Mike Lawler held a press conference this morning to announce the renaming of the Haverstraw post office. The event, which took place at 10:00 AM at the post office located on 86 Main Street in Haverstraw, was a poignant tribute to Piperato’s impactful service to the community.

Congressman Lawler was accompanied by notable local figures including Rockland County Executive Ed Day, current Rockland County Clerk Donna Silberman, Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco, Haverstraw Supervisor Howie Phillips, Rockland County Legislators Aron Wieder and Joel Friedman.  Importantly, members of Paul Piperato’s family were also in attendance, adding a personal dimension to the ceremony.

The announcement is a testament to Paul Piperato’s dedicated service to Rockland County. Elected as a Councilman in the Town of Haverstraw in November 1997, Piperato served two 4-year terms before his election as County Clerk. His contributions extended beyond administrative roles, as he was also actively involved in various town commissions and committees. These included Parks and Recreation, Diversity, and Youth, with additional responsibilities as Labor and Police Liaison and Deputy Supervisor.

Paul Piperato, who passed away on May 6, 2020, at the age of 61, was a respected figure in the community. His tenure as Town Police Commissioner and involvement in local governance left an indelible mark on Haverstraw and Rockland County at large.

The renaming of the Haverstraw post office is a symbolic gesture acknowledging Piperato’s decades of service and the impact he had on the community. It serves as a reminder of his dedication and commitment to public service, ensuring his legacy endures in a place he served with distinction.
