A vehicle was struck by a southbound train early Wednesday morning after becoming stuck on the railroad crossing at Lake Road in Congers.
According to the Clarkstown Police Department, officers responded to the crossing at approximately 2:45 a.m. following reports of a vehicle stuck on the tracks. Before the train arrived, the sole occupant of the vehicle was able to safely exit, and the train subsequently struck the unoccupied vehicle.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The Lake Road railroad crossing was temporarily closed while crews worked to remove the vehicle and conduct a safety inspection of the tracks. Officials confirmed that the roadway has since reopened as of 6:20 a.m.
Police noted that the Kings Highway in Congers railroad crossing is not affected by the incident and remains open to traffic.
