The man who was struck and killed by a train in Nanuet on Wednesday afternoon has been identified as 32-year-old Nicholas K. Colandrea of Congers, the MTA Police Department confirmed Thursday.
As Monsey Scoop reported on Wednesday, the incident occurred around 2:55 p.m. just west of the Metro-North Railroad Nanuet station. Emergency responders pronounced Colandrea deceased at the scene.
According to MTA Deputy Communications Director Aaron Donovan, Colandrea was struck by New Jersey Transit Train 1630, which was operating on Metro-North’s Pascack Valley Line. The train was traveling at approximately 25 miles per hour—described by officials as an appropriate speed for that location—when the incident occurred.
Six passengers and three crew members were on board at the time. No injuries were reported among them.
The MTA Police Department is leading the investigation, which remains in its early stages. Based on video surveillance, authorities say foul play is not suspected. The Clarkstown Police Department also responded to the scene.
Pascack Valley Line service was temporarily suspended during the investigation.
