Community Leaders and Askanim Hold Zoom Meeting to Address Education Commissioner’s Ruling

In response to the shocking, undemocratic, and unconstitutional decision yesterday by the New York State Commissioner of Education, Betty Rosa, to arbitrarily impose an additional 4.38% tax increase on the taxpayers of the East Ramapo School District, an urgent Zoom meeting was convened at 7 PM this evening. The meeting included askanim, local officials from across the political aisle, community leaders, and legal counsel.

During the meeting, a newly formed community group called Parents Against Stealth Taxes (PAST) announced their plan to bring a legal challenge on behalf of the district’s taxpayers to overturn this unjust ruling. Pro bono counsel has been retained to provide legal representation at no charge to PAST, aiming to prevent the disregard of the voters’ rights and the disenfranchisement of the entire community.

PAST’s goal is to protect the future of the district’s taxpayers. A united response to this unjust and illegal act is paramount. Community leaders are working together on behalf of the residents, and many details and updates will follow.

  1. Thank you very much for the selfless people that trying to help and they’re not even getting the name out or picture kudos to them

  2. There should be a coordinated effort to have district taxpayers withhold payment of the illegitimate tax bill as the issue will not be resolved in court until after the 9/30 payment deadline.
