In response to numerous complaints regarding commercial vehicles exceeding the 5-ton weight limit on Montebello Road, the Ramapo Police Department (RPD) collaborated with The Village of Montebello and the Rockland County Highway Department to address the issue.
The initiative involved the placement of new signs and the relocation of existing ones, aimed at better informing motorists about the weight restrictions. Working closely with Montebello village engineers and the county highway department, the RPD’s Traffic Safety Unit ensured the effective placement of signage to enhance awareness among drivers.
To further reinforce the message, message boards were strategically placed in the area during the signage installation process. This collaborative effort culminated in an enforcement detail conducted by the Ramapo PD Traffic Safety Unit on Thursday.
The results were promising, as no violations were observed during the enforcement operation. The single vehicle stopped was found to be making a local delivery, highlighting the success of voluntary compliance among commercial drivers.
RPD expressed gratitude to the commercial drivers for adhering to the weight restrictions, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety on local roadways.
