As Monsey Scoop reported on Monday night, Tragedy struck on Route 304 last night as a head-on collision claimed one life and left two others with serious injuries. The Clarkstown Police Department has released details of the incident, which occurred on Monday, December 23, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., near the intersection of Route 304 and Second Street.
According to preliminary findings, a 2010 black Hyundai sedan, driven by a 35-year-old man from Ohio, mistakenly entered Route 304 traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. The Hyundai collided head-on with a 2013 silver BMW, which was traveling southbound. The BMW was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and his 16-year-old female passenger.
The force of the collision was devastating. The Hyundai was propelled into the center median, while the BMW was forced onto the shoulder of the southbound lanes. Emergency responders, including the New City Fire Department, Clarkstown Police, New City Ambulance, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, and Rockland Paramedics, rushed to the scene to provide aid and extricate the victims.
The driver and passenger of the BMW were successfully removed from the vehicle and transported to Westchester Medical Center, where they are being treated for serious injuries. Tragically, the driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have withheld the individual’s identity pending family notification.
The Clarkstown Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has additional information to contact the Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau at (845) 639-5800.
