Clarkstown Police Officer William “Billy” Berrigan Retires After Nearly 38 Years of Service

The Clarkstown Police Department is congratulating Police Officer William “Billy” Berrigan on his retirement after nearly 38 years of dedicated service to the residents of Clarkstown and Rockland County.

Berrigan began his career in public safety with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a dispatcher from June 1988 through May 1992. He later joined the Clarkstown Police Department in May 1992 as a dispatcher, continuing in that role until January 1996.

In January 1996, Berrigan was sworn in as a Clarkstown police officer, a position he proudly held until his retirement. Throughout his career, he played an important role in several specialized units within the department.

Beginning in 2002, Berrigan served as a member of the department’s Special Operations Traffic Enforcement Unit. In addition to his primary responsibilities, he also contributed to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, the Child Safety Seat Team, and the Accident Investigation Unit.

Members of the Clarkstown Police Department thanked Berrigan for his decades of service and dedication to the community, wishing him a long, healthy, and fulfilling retirement.

  1. can anyone explain what’s been going on here the last 2 weeks with so many retierees from the clarkstown PD, are they closing shop?

  2. Wow, I don’t remember the last time I was so happy when an officer retired! He was a nasty officer – he had no respect for anyone, not even first responders. He used to pull them over right and left, even while they were responding to calls

  3. He won’t be missed by patients who are waiting for EMS to arrive during a medical emergency.
As an EMS first responder, I was pulled over by him while legally using lights and sirens on the way to a medical emergency — not once, but twice — and obviously neither time did I receive a summons because i was following the law that he couldn’t understand, He should be ashamed of himself for that.

He probably didn’t know that a police officer isn’t making laws and they don’t have to understand the law— a police officer is here to enforce the law.

  4. This guy should have been fired years. He is unqualified or fit for this position. He detained me illegally for 3 hours, towed my trailer illegally. And costed me over 8k in attorney fees, fines, impound fees etc. I have everything on video. He’s a two faced individual.

  5. This is great all the nasty corrupt cops from Clarkstown are retiring. It can’t get much better than this …. Yee Haw
