Clarkstown Police Join Statewide ‘Blue Envelope’ Program to Aid Drivers with Disabilities

The Clarkstown Police Department has officially joined the Blue Envelope Program, a statewide initiative aimed at improving interactions between law enforcement and individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities during traffic stops.

The program provides participants with a blue-colored envelope to store their driver’s license, registration, and insurance card. Officers are trained to recognize the envelope and understand that its presence indicates the driver may need additional patience or support. Each envelope also includes guidance for both drivers and officers to help facilitate calm, respectful, and clear communication during encounters.

Residents can pick up a free blue envelope and learn more about the program by visiting the Clarkstown Police Department headquarters at 20 Maple Avenue in New City.
