The Clarkstown Police Department joined regional law enforcement agencies yesterday for a press conference highlighting the success of a multi-agency task force targeting so-called “Ghost Cars” — vehicles made untraceable through fraudulent, altered, or missing license plates.
Officials announced that the coordinated initiative has already carried out 100 operations aimed at removing these vehicles from local roadways. Police say many of the cars are unregistered, uninsured, or stolen, and in some cases have been linked to serious crimes, including hit-and-runs, robberies, and shootings.
“We see what happens with these ‘ghost’ plates and these plates that are altered—it affects everyone from accident victims to victims of crime,” said Clarkstown Police Chief Jeffrey Wanamaker. “We’re proud to be part of this great task force and protect our citizens in Clarkstown, Rockland County, and across the state of New York.”
The Clarkstown Police Department emphasized its ongoing commitment to public safety and transparency, noting that the crackdown on ghost cars is part of broader efforts to ensure safer roads for all motorists.
