Clarkstown Police Hold DWI Crash Simulation to Educate Nanuet Students on Dangers of Impaired Driving

The Clarkstown Police Department, in collaboration with multiple community partners, conducted a powerful simulated DWI crash demonstration on Monday at the Nanuet School District Outdoor Education Center. The event, aimed at educating high school seniors about the real-life consequences of impaired driving, featured a staged vehicle accident followed by a mock emergency response, including vehicle extrication and on-scene medical care.

Participants included Clarkstown Police Chief Wanamaker, Town Supervisor George Hoehmann, Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh, Anastasia Karassik of the Larisa Karassik Foundation, Clarkstown Town Justice Michael Bongiorno, Nanuet High School Principal Mike Mahoney, as well as members of the Nanuet Fire Engine Company, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, and student actors from the Nanuet EMS Youth Corps.

The simulation emphasized a sobering message: one poor decision behind the wheel can have life-altering consequences. Students were urged to make responsible choices, including calling for a ride instead of driving impaired.

The event was made possible through the support of the Town of Clarkstown and its leadership, as well as dedicated community organizations committed to youth safety and education.
