Local officials gathered this week to recognize the graduation of high school students from the Clarkstown Police Department Youth Police Academy, marking the successful completion of the program’s latest session.
Attending the ceremony were Police Chief Michael Wanamaker, Captains Fay and Cummings, Town Supervisor George Hoehmann, and members of the Clarkstown Town Board.
Over the course of 10 weeks, participating students took part in an intensive, hands-on curriculum designed to introduce them to the fundamentals of law enforcement. The program included training in defensive tactics, criminal investigations, and crime scene forensics, providing students with real-world exposure to police work while emphasizing discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
Department officials credited Lt. Kieran Dwyer and the department’s School Resource Officers for their leadership and dedication in guiding the students through the academy.
The Youth Police Academy is open to students from the Clarkstown Central School District, and aims to foster positive relationships between local youth and law enforcement while encouraging civic responsibility and community service.
