Clarkstown Police Bids Farewell to Lt. James “Jimmy Mac” McCormick After 28 Years of Service

After more than 28 years of distinguished service, Lieutenant James “Jimmy Mac” McCormick is retiring from the Clarkstown Police Department, marking the end of an era for the town’s law enforcement and emergency response efforts.

Lt. McCormick began his career with the department in July 1996 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a key figure in emergency management. In 1999, he was named assistant emergency management coordinator, setting the stage for a decades-long commitment to public safety and crisis response.

By 2005, he was promoted to Emergency Management Coordinator for the Town of Clarkstown, overseeing emergency preparedness and coordinating responses to natural disasters and other major incidents. His leadership continued to grow when he was promoted to patrol sergeant in 2007, and in 2013, he was once again tapped to lead the town’s emergency management efforts.

Lt. McCormick’s career was marked by innovation and dedication. In 2021, he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant, leading the midnight shift and playing a key role in keeping the community safe during overnight hours. That same year, he also took the helm of the department’s Drone Unit, integrating new technology to support law enforcement operations.

As Clarkstown reflects on Lt. McCormick’s legacy, colleagues and community members alike are expressing deep gratitude for his decades of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication.

From patrol to emergency management and cutting-edge drone technology, Lt. McCormick leaves behind a lasting impact. His retirement marks a well-earned new chapter, and the community joins in congratulating him on an extraordinary career.
