On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, a tragic collision between two vehicles occurred in New City, NY, prompting the Clarkstown Police Department to appeal for witnesses and video evidence of the accident.
Around 7:15 pm, law enforcement responded to a crash involving a gray Audi A6 and a black Ford Edge at the intersection of Rt. 59 and Broome Blvd. in Central Nyack. Eyewitnesses reported observing the Audi being driven recklessly along Rt. 59 from Waldron Ave.
As the Audi, driven by Corey Womack, a 24-year-old male from New Jersey, approached the intersection near Broome Blvd, it collided with the Ford Edge. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road and into the Hub Shopping Center. Womack was transported to Montefiore Nyack hospital for medical treatment and subsequently arrested. He is currently held at Clarkstown Police HQ awaiting arraignment in Clarkstown Justice Court on charges of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a felony, and Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor.
The driver of the Ford Edge, an adult female, was also taken to Montefiore Nyack hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of her family.
To conduct a thorough investigation, the Clarkstown Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team examined the scene, leading to a temporary closure of a section of Rt. 59.
The police department actively requests the assistance of individuals who may have witnessed the accident or possess video footage from the vicinity during the incident. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Clarkstown Detective Bureau at (845) 639-5840.
