CLARKSTOWN: Congers Lake Trailway Section Remains Closed Indefinitely Amid Structural Concerns

A portion of the Congers Lake Trailway in the Town of Clarkstown will remain closed indefinitely due to a safety issue involving the boardwalk between markers 47 and 54, town officials announced in an update.

According to the Town, several aging pilings beneath the elevated walkway have shifted and become separated from the deck structure, prompting immediate safety concerns and the need for closure. Over the past several weeks, officials have been assessing the extent of the damage while exploring both temporary and long-term repair solutions.

The situation has been described as complex, requiring permits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation before any repair work can proceed. Town officials say they are actively coordinating with state partners in an effort to expedite the permitting process and reopen the affected section as soon as possible.

However, due to the length of the state permitting process, no timeline for reopening has been provided at this time.

Residents and visitors are advised to continue following posted detour signs near the dam and Beckerle Lumber while the closure remains in effect.
