On January 9, 2024, at approximately 07:43 AM, the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police apprehended three suspects who had led authorities on a high-speed chase through multiple jurisdictions. The pursuit began after the Clarkstown Police Department alerted the New York State Police to a stolen 2018 gray Jeep Renegade that was making its way southbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, approaching the New Jersey state line.
According to law enforcement reports and as reported by Monsey Scoop earlier today, the suspects had been engaged in a string of car burglaries in Clarkstown when they stumbled upon the Jeep Renegade, which had been left running with the keys inside. Seizing the opportunity, they made off with the vehicle, prompting the Clarkstown Police Department to initiate a pursuit that eventually reached the vicinity of the New Jersey state line.
The driver of the stolen Jeep was identified as 18-year-old Algenis Cabrera, hailing from New York, NY, while the passengers were identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Rodriguez and a 17-year-old male, both from Bronx, NY.
The situation took a new twist when the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police spotted the stolen vehicle heading southbound on the parkway in Alpine, New Jersey. They attempted a traffic stop, but the suspects once again chose to evade capture, leading to a high-speed chase. In a strategic move, the Parkway Police successfully deployed Stop Sticks, a tire deflation device, which promptly and safely brought the pursuit to an end.
Following the disabling of the stolen Jeep, all three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot through the nearby woods, eventually crossing Route 9W in Englewood Cliffs and seeking refuge in an office building parking lot. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies, the three suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities have levied a range of charges against all three individuals, including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, eluding police, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, burglary, and using a juvenile in the commission of a theft of an automobile. The suspects are now awaiting legal proceedings in the respective jurisdictions involved in the case.
